Books are downright fabulous and have stood the test of time. And don’t even get us started on that iconic smell. We at Indigo, of course, have our fair share of love to offer for printed matter. We also have endless admiration for the scores of authors, bookstores, and other literary leaners who dole out web-based content for us to enjoy off the page. Here are some of our current favorites:
Constellation Reading Series
Tin House and Bishop and Wilde, two Pacific Northwest literary incubators, have come together to create the Constellation Reading Series, focused on “cultivating an intersectional community space for people who love reading and writing.” Constellation’s monthly event makes its home in Indigo’s own Portland at Bishop and Wilde’s brick and mortar location. Luckily, if you can’t make it in person, you can watch its readings anywhere you are, thanks to its live stream.
Just One of Our Favorites: Constellation #5: Ray Mayer, Kesha Ajose-Fisher, Nastashia Minto
Poet, writer, musician, and Indigo client Nastashia Minto is always a delight to see and hear and her reading at Constellation #5 is no exception. Her performative, evocative approach to reading is the perfect match to the lithe, earthy, and lyrical style of her poetic writing. Poet Ray Meyer and No God Like the Mother author Kesha Ajose-Fisher are also phenomenal, dynamic performers to watch.

She welcomes “risk-takers, journeyers, truth-seekers” to each episode and, indeed, Write-Minded offers many groundbreaking deep dives into a wide array of topics in publishing.
Just One of Our Favorites: The Raw Truth about Exposure, featuring Susan Kiyo Ito
How do memoirists working on sensitive projects navigate the maze of their personal experiences and the inherent risks in revealing them? Brooke and Grant invite author of I Would Meet You Anywhere Susan Ito to explore these boundaries and managing “vulnerability hangovers” in memoir.
Johnnie Mazzocco
Word witch and writer Johnnie Mazzocco is a longtime Indigo friend and client. She’s worked as a screenwriter, filmmaker, and creator of the Writing Through the BodyTM method to help “banish writer’s block, achieve flow, and tell your untold stories.” Johnnie is a prolific, multi-medium content creator often thoughtfully informed by astrology and the metaphysical.
Just One of Our Favorites: On Being a Word Witch + Why Astrology Is Important to Writing Practice
Johnnie advocates that “writing is a form a magic.” Anyone who’s felt that otherworldly pang when just the right adjective is chosen can attest to that. Whether you’re zodiac-curious or not, Johnnie’s plunge into the subject and her own astrological background presents a compelling, unconventional application to fostering creativity.

So, it’s no wonder that she popped on the show to chat about typography, artwork, and all the intricate inner workings of cover design. Nicki Yowell is a lifelong enthusiast of all things print. She’s been writing ever since her childhood years at the helm of The Nicki News, a slightly factual personal periodical. Since acquiring her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism, she’s spent time freelance writing for a variety of publications. She also has been self-publishing her own zines for over a decade. When she’s not writing or working on creative projects, Nicki enjoys scouring the country for the best slice of pizza and adapting dinner recipes based on the contents of her fridge.
